Motoactv

So in my never ending quest to find more technology to use wherever and whenever I can, I picked a Motorola MotoActv to track my running. So far so good. Works well as a music player and does a pretty good job with tracking my runs.

Pros: works well, wifi auto upload fitness data is nice, iTunes syncing for playlists and podcasts, seamless bluetooth sync, significantly improved battery life with recent firmware upgrade.

Cons: calibration with footpad for treadmill running doesn’t measure distance exactly, need wristband – armband not ideal for viewing data, cool wireless headphones with heart monitor not yet available, texts and calls syncing only works with Motorola phones.

I find it’s a lot more convenient than using my iPhone – I can wear it on my wrist and it’s not as large as the iPhone…

All in all, I give it a thumbs up – check it out.

What can you say - a classic...

I love the Dark Tower — it is worth a read at Amazon’s great $12 price…

Ooma

So telephone service is not terribly exciting, but about three years ago I bought an Ooma box to use as a fax line for the home office.  Given I never work from home and scan and email most everything instead of faxing, it rarely got used for the first six months – so I decided to take it out to our Lake house and use it as our primary phone service.  We don’t use it much, but no issues at all and free phone service for nearly three years now.  Only concern I’ve had was how long until Ooma ran out of money…

So a month ago I got into one of my fits re: Time Warner Cable and decided that I was going to switch from TWC’s Digital Phone to an Ooma line, after all – $3 in FCC charges a month versus the $30+ for Digital Phone seem like a no-brainer.   I know, who needs a home line — but with two kids and all the associated coordination, it is nice to have a primary line.   To switch, all I needed was the $200 box (from Amazon or direct), which I got for  $175 on sale — now all I need is to make it six months and I’m at break even.  Please Ooma just make it until July and I’ve made out on the deal.

The best thing is that the service is pretty darn good and I’m not giving TWC any more $.  Porting the number was a breeze and we are now three weeks with Ooma and I’m thrilled!  Now if I could get FIOS or some other broadband here, I would go Dish/Direct TV in a heartbeat (and that is saying something given my four lifetime Tivo units) and be done with TWC.

Ooma, hang in there – my suggestion would be to post your cash status on your site somewhere.  It is the only reason I didn’t buy my second box 3 years ago!

Things I Really Love

So this is a list of things I really like and in most instances why.  My guess is that in most instances the discussion will be about consumer electronic products, but will most likely include things from book to movies and people to companies that I really like.  I am hopeful this will be all positive and I won’t delve into the darker side, which unfortunately is so much easier to compile…
